I am Harsh - a Student, Software Developer & Tech Enthusiast. Welcome to my Digital Library!

Hi! I am Harsh Modi, a Software Developer with a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC) aspiring to build inspiring tech! I enjoy engaging in and being challenged with projects that require me to work outside my comfort zone and come up with innovative solutions. The urge for better simplicity challenging the complexity of today is what drives me.

With a thought put my coding skills to good use and help aspiring applicants get into their dream grad schools, I, along with my small team, have built a platform to connect students with their dream school alumni. You'll find details about the platform here.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Software Development Engineering Intern @ Amazon (USA)

May 2022 - August 2022

As a part of the Alexa Care Team at Amazon, I worked on designing and developing a group calling feature for the Alexa Together service on android.↴

Technologies I work on : Java, Android, AWS, Dynamo DB, Lambda, SNS, SQS, REST APIs

Contributions & Accomplishments :
• Designed and implemented scalable customer critical group calling (audio + video) feature for the Alexa Together service
• Leveraged existing architecture and built asynchronous backend services and APIs using Java triggered through Lambda function to interact with internal services to enable group calling between android devices and Alexa Echo devices through button click or Alexa voice command
• Integrated Dynamo DB storage functionality to maintain relationships between members of the group call

Full Stack Web Developer - Student Worker @ USC School of Pharmacy (USA)

April 2021 - Present

As a part of the technology team at the USC School of Pharmacy, I am working on full-stack web development of AARDVARC - a USC School of Pharmacy product to streamline programmatic, curricular, faculty, teaching, and experiential data.↴

• Directed various aspects of planning, designing, and feature development using agile project methodologies
• Remodeled and implemented a versioning system within the website database structure to increase and speed up scalability to future versions by up to 75%
• Provided legacy database-compatible solutions to complex and time-sensitive problems improving end-user experience and code-base quality

Full Stack Web Developer @ Sabertooth Technologies (India)

September 2019 - May 2020

As a part of the Web Development Team, I worked on building websites and web applications for the company and its clients. I also worked on managing a team of 3 interns, assigning them tasks and keeping a track of their progress. ↴

January 2019 - June 2019

As a part of the Value Chain Planning (VCP) Team, I worked on leveraging my understandings in day-to-day operations by effectively monitoring Daily Production Cycle and taking necessary actions when required. ↴

  • Details -
    • The website allows the user to enter a company name or stock symbol and get all the stock related information
    • Alpha Vantage API was used to fetch the stats for a particular company
    • The fetched information was populated into graphs and tables using amCharts.js and HTML, CSS and Bootstrap
    • User is also given an option to view the information on Tableau Worksheets

  • Details -
    • Built a tool that helps people calculate how much they should be donating to Wikipedia based on their reading and contribution habits
    • Tool allows the user to select the number of articles they read, a monetary contribution per article they feel is justified, and if they contribute to Wikipedia by writing or editing their articles.
    • Based on the responses, it calculates the value that the person should be donating to Wikipedia.

AlumNextDoor

The goal of the platform is to connect graduate school applicants to students and alumni (who we call mentors) from their dream school who have similar background/goals to get help from them for their graduate school applications.

The idea of AlumNextDoor was born from the belief that the current consultancy services do not provide as much value for money and that a person who has already trodden the path to get into their dream school could help out an applicant much better at a fraction of the cost / FREE.

We are a young team trying to disrupt the consultancy market! I, as the techy Co-Founder, handle the entire technical aspect of the platform which majorly involves building the platform and keeping it up and running. I am also involved in the Marketing and Sales for the platform.
